THE AFL CELEBRATES INDIGENOUS ROUND

Round nine of the AFL was Indigenous Round and to celebrate the first AFL Queensland Indigenous Girls Invitational team played a curtain-raiser against the Narangba Valley State High School Vipers before the Lions and St Kilda game at the Gabba.

The All-Stars, who were coached by All-Australian female football player Aasta Buchanan, were beaten by the Vipers 4.4 (28) to 2.7 (19).

Ninety-two indigenous children aged 10 and 11 from eight remote communities in regional Queensland also were flown to Brisbane to play in the halftime games.
